Colt Dillard was born in Alabama, growing up listening to country, rock, blues and gospel records his mother would play for him. At age 11 he begged his parents to let him go to the Charlie Daniels band concert , they finally relented and he had his first taste of southern rock and country music. Colt's step mother and her brothers played bluegrass music at different venues around Alabama. Colt and his siblings acted as their roadies learning a lot about bluegrass music. As a teenager Colt's mother remarried and moved to Dallas ,Texas. This is where Colt learned about Texas blues, rock-a-billy, red dirt country and the Texas culture. Spending nights in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas, Colt would listen and learn about Texas blues. As a young adult his family business had him working in Memphis , Nashville and New Orleans. Not old enough to enter the bars on Beale Street, Bourbon street and 2nd Avenue in Nashville he would listen to the jazz, blues and country ringing through the streets that has influenced him throughout his life. Engulfed in music Colt listened to Jonny Cash, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, B.B. King, Roy Buchanan, Billy Gibbons, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr, George Jones, the Rolling Stones and others.
